Jason and I had our first night alone since we had a couple nights in February 2011 to moved into our new house in Fort Worth during the ice storm...so it has actually been since February 2010 when we had a true night away to enjoy each other! So after Colson's party, we left the kids in great hands with Aunt Tina, Uncle Brian, Granma Noni and Poppi Wayne and we headed to Austin for some rest and relaxation.
We stopped for a snack, drove around a few neighborhoods and then checked into our hotel to lay around and enjoy the quiet for a bit. We made some dinner reservations, had a drink in the hotel room and then went to a romantic dinner at Backspace.
As we were leaving the restaurant we asked each other, "what do you want to do now?" Neither of us had any idea and we truly couldn't remember what we did before we had kids so I suggested we walk down 6th Street. Jason quickly replied, "we are way too old to go to 6th street!" The valet heard him and started laughing and Jason said, "see, even he agrees!" We laughed a little and then noted the moment as something we would remember and relive again...for some reason it was so poignant...but guess where we ended up? On 6th Street! I had mentioned I wanted to go to Pete's because I love dueling piano bars and Jason was up for a little entertainment so we went. It was a really fun night and we enjoyed our night away!
And no night in Austin would be complete without something "weird"...
This guy brought an inflatable doll as his date and was dancing with it and taking pictures with her all night...
The next morning we woke up at 7 am, looked at the clock and went back to sleep until 10. After getting 9 hours of sleep I didn't need coffee- it was wonderful and I felt GREAT! I went to the gym and ran for an hour while Jason caught up on racing news and then we slowly got ready, packed up and checked out. We stopped at Papacito's for some real Mexican food, Jason took me for a pedicure then we drove around some other neighborhoods (Jason's favorite pastime is scoping out where we want to live if we ever get to move back to Austin).
I actually really missed the kids and was anxious to see them again- however I really enjoyed my day away and could definitely use more of them before another 2 years passes!
